Une convention de jonglerie est une manife … Une convention de jonglerie est une manifestation à but non-lucratif qui fournit un lieu d’échanges sur plusieurs jours aux jongleurs et artistes, amateurs et professionnels dans une atmosphère conviviale et non-compétitive. Il s’agit avant tout d’une grande fête du jonglage sous toutes ses formes : à la fois festival, par les spectacles et les animations qui sont offerts au public, et congrès, au travers des ateliers proposés, la présence des professionnels du spectacle et des vendeurs de matériels de cirque. Outre les animations qui se déroulent, un véritable petit village est installé, où se trouve une restauration, un bar, un lieu de spectacles, un espace pour dormir ou un camping, ainsi que des gymnases qui servent d’espace d’entraînement et de lieu d’hygiène (toilettes et douches). La vie s’y déroule en continue et il est fréquent que les premiers réveillés croisent les derniers à aller se coucher. C’est pourquoi, au moins un endroit de la convention est généralement ouvert 24 h/24. L’objectif prioritaire de la plupart des conventions de jonglage est de disposer d’un lieu principal (chapiteau, gymnase ou salle), où tout participant peut jongler librement, partager et apprendre des astuces. Des ateliers de perfectionnement (workshops) plus formels sont souvent organisés, dans lesquels des jongleurs experts travaillent avec de petits groupes sur des compétences et des techniques spécifiques. En général, la programmation inclut : scène ouverte, scène de feu, gala, renegade, workshops, jeux de la jongle et parade. Pour le reste, chaque convention est unique et comme la Jonglerie, la Convention devrait changer, se développer, être inspirée, être flexible et créative. La même convention peut être différente d’édition en édition (d’autres organisateurs, dans un lieu différent, avec d’autres animations, d’autres personnes…). La dernière chose à noter est que ces conventions sont généralement organisées avec les jongleurs, pour les jongleurs. Die weltweit größte Convention ist die Europäische Jonglierconvention (EJC), die seit 1978 jedes Jahr in einem anderen europäischen Land stattfindet und einige Tausend Teilnehmer hat. Jonglierconventions werden in der Regel von Amateuren selbst organisiert und leben von der Mithilfe der Teilnehmer. Viele erfolgreiche Conventions werden jährlich wiederholt, in Deutschland etwa die Veranstaltungen in Berlin, Karlsruhe und Dresden. Neben dem freien Jonglieren ist der Erfahrungsaustausch im Rahmen von Workshops fester Bestandteil jeder Jonglierconvention. Die meisten Workshops werden von Teilnehmern selbst veranstaltet – oft entsteht die Idee dazu erst im Laufe der Convention. Gerade auf großen Veranstaltungen gibt es aber auch vorher angekündigte Workshops, mit denen die Veranstalter werben. Je nach Größe der Convention gibt es eine oder mehrere Shows. Während auf kleinen Conventions oft nur Teilnehmer auf einer Open Stage („Offenen Bühne“) auftreten, treten auf größeren Treffen bezahlte Künstler im Rahmen einer großen Gala auf. Darüber hinaus gibt es verschiedenste Showformate, beispielsweise die allabendliche Renegade auf der EJC, bei der spät nachts jeder spontan auftreten kann und sich das Publikum rege und oft auf vulgäre Weise beteiligt. Ein weiterer Höhepunkt der meisten Conventions sind die Jonglierspiele. Traditionell gibt es hier Ausdauerwettbewerbe und Combat, bei dem Teilnehmer drei Keulen jonglieren und fast jedes Mittel erlaubt ist, um als letzter noch zu jonglieren und so zu gewinnen. Außerdem denken sich die Organisatoren jeder Spiele neue, oft alberne Spiele aus. Bei genügend Platz wird von den Teilnehmern oft spontan während der gesamten Zeit Volleyclub gespielt. Die großen, überregionalen Treffen veranstalten oft eine Parade durch den Veranstaltungsort.
