August 1941 in Neutitschein, Landkreis Neu Titschein) ist ein deutscher Philosoph, der nach seiner Emeritierung einen Lehrstuhl für Philosophie an der Bilkent Üniversitesi im Stadtteil Bilkent von Ankara erhalten hat. Sein Studium schloss Steinvorth 1967 bei Günther Patzig in Göttingen mit einer Promotionsarbeit über Ludwig Wittgenstein zum Thema Empfindungen und Privatsprache ab. Von 1968 bis 1977 war er wissenschaftlicher Assistent an der Universität Mannheim, wo er sich 1975 mit der Arbeit Eine analytische Interpretation der Marxschen Dialektik habilitieren konnte. Nach zwei Vertretungsprofessuren von 1977 bis 1980 an der Universität Osnabrück und 1980 bis 1982 an der Universität Düsseldorf erhielt er 1982 einen Lehrstuhl für praktische Philosophie an der Universität Hamburg, den er bis 2006 innehatte. Von 2006 bis 2011 lehrte er an der Universität Bilkent in Ankara; 2011 bis 2012 an der Universität Tokio (Todai). He habilitated in 1975 at the University of Mannheim with a thesis that advanced an analytic interpretation of Marx's Dialectic ("An Analytic Interpretation of Marx's Dialectic"). His primary field of research is political philosophy. Additionally, he has published on topics in moral philosophy and applied philosophy, as well as the history of philosophy and metaphysics. He has also been an active supporter of the German branch of the Creative Commons movement. Until his retirement in 2006, he held posts at various German universities. From 1968 to 1977, he was assistant professor at the University of Mannheim; from 1977 to 1980, he was professor of philosophy at the University of Osnabrueck; from 1980 to 1982, he was professor of philosophy at the University of Düsseldorf; from 1982 to 2006, he was a professor of philosophy at the University of Hamburg.
