Zij vullen elkaar op professioneel gebied goed aan, maar het verschil in rang, opleiding en sexe speelt elke aflevering weer een rol. De indruk wordt gewekt dat Barbara verliefd is op Tommy, maar dat wordt nooit daadwerkelijk getoond. Hij rijdt in een Bristol 410. De serie is door de BBC nogal abrupt gestopt en het lijkt erop dat aflevering 23 Know Thine Enemy de laatste geweest is. Toen de BBC bekendmaakte te stoppen met Inspector Lynley leverde dit groot ongenoegen op van de KRO-detectivefans die naar aanleiding van dit bericht ruim 13.000 handtekeningen leverden aan de KRO om hun teleurstelling kenbaar te maken. Ik voel me enorm vereerd en ben heel blij met alle aandacht die ik krijg.
