La Bible des États ou Bible des États géné … La Bible des États ou Bible des États généraux (en néerlandais Statenbijbel, ou Statenvertaling littéralement « traduction des États ») est la première traduction de la Bible officielle de l’Église réformée en néerlandais produite à partir des textes en hébreu, araméen et grec. Elle est précédée des traductions néerlandaises comme la (en) de 1477, la (nl) de 1526, la (nl) de 1560 et la (nl) de 1562 - celles-ci sont des traductions de traductions - et la (nl) de l’Église catholique romaine. Elle est commanditée par le Synode de Dordrecht en 1618 et sera payée par les États généraux des Pays-Bas. The first complete Dutch Bible had been printed in Antwerp in 1526 by Jacob van Liesvelt. Like other existing Dutch Bibles, however, it was merely a translation of other translations. Furthermore, the translation from Martin Luther was widely used, but it had a Lutheran interpretation. At the Synod of Dort in 1618/19, it was therefore deemed necessary to have a new translation accurately based on the original languages. The synod requested the States-General of the Netherlands to commission it. In 1626, the States-General accepted the request from the synod, and the translation started. It was completed in 1635 and authorized by the States-General in 1637. From then until 1657, when a second edition was published, a half-million copies were printed. It remained authoritative in Protestant churches well into the 20th century. The source material for the Old Testament was the Masoretic Text with secondary references to the Septuagint. In 1637 werd ze door de Staten geautoriseerd. De stad Leiden betaalde 2500 gulden voor het recht om de bijbel in Leiden te laten drukken. Tussen 1637 en 1657 werd een half miljoen exemplaren gedrukt. Ook nu nog blijft de Statenvertaling gezaghebbend in sommige protestantse kerken. In de negentiende eeuw ontstond de mythe dat de Statenbijbel, behalve op religieus terrein, ook op taalkundig en politiek terrein een niet te onderschatten betekenis heeft gehad. De taal van de Statenbijbel zou de grondslag gevormd hebben voor het Standaardnederlands dat zich in de 17e eeuw heeft ontwikkeld en als belangrijk instrument in de culturele eenwording van Nederland hebben gefungeerd. Uit wetenschappelijk onderzoek is echter gebleken dat dit een hardnekkig misverstand is.
