Ronald Michiel de Wolf (* 28. Januar 1973 … Ronald Michiel de Wolf (* 28. Januar 1973 in Zaandam) ist ein niederländischer Informatiker, der sich mit Quanteninformatik befasst. Ronald de Wolf studierte nach dem Abitur in Capelle aan den IJssel 1991 Informatik an der Universität Rotterdam (Master-Abschluss 1996) und außerdem Philosophie (Master-Abschluss 1997). Ab 1997 war er am CWI und der Universität Amsterdam, an der er 2001 bei und Harry Buhrman in Informatik promovierte (Quantum computing and communication complexity). Als Post-Doktorand war er bei Umesh Vazirani an der University of California, Berkeley und 2002 bis 2006 am Centrum Wiskunde & Informatica (CWI), an dem er 2007 Senior Researcher wurde. Seit 2011 ist er außerdem Professor an der Universität Amsterdam. Mit Harry Buhrman und anderen entwickelte er eine allgemeine Methode um die Grenzen von Quantenrechnern zu bestimmen, die Quanten-Polynom-Methode. Ebenfalls mit Buhrman zeigte er, dass Quantenrechner bei einigen Problemen sehr viel effizienter sind (wie der Bestimmung von Quanten-Fingerabdrücken). Mit Kerenidis wandte er die Quanteninformatik auf ein klassisches Informatikproblem an und fand exponentielle Untergrenzen für die Länge von lokal dekodierbaren fehlerkorrigierenden Codes (mit 2 Bits des Codewortes für die Dekodierung eines Bits). Mit klassischen Informatik-Methoden waren davor nur polynomiale Untergrenzen gefunden worden. Das Verfahren lieferte auch neue kryptographische Protokolle. 2003 erhielt er den Cor Baayen Award des ERCIM (European Research Consortium for Informatics and Mathematics). 2014 erhielt er einen Consolidator Grant des European Research Council und einen TOP-Grant der niederländischen Forschungsorganisation NWO.
