Seit 2001 ist er Bardeen Professor für Physik an der University of Illinois. Er war an grundlegenden Experimenten zur Wechselwirkungsfreien Quantenmessung, zum Quantenradierer und der optischen Implementierung verschiedener Quantenprotokolle in der Quanteninformationsverarbeitung beteiligt.
