Sechs der Navagraha-Tempel werden bereits im Tevaram, einer Sammlung devotionaler Hymnen aus dem 7. und 8. Jahrhundert, besungen. Die Assoziation der Navagraha-Schreine zu einem Cluster von neun Tempeln ist aber deutlich jüngeren Datums.
