Dezember 2021 nur Institut für Weltwirtschaft) ist ein Zentrum weltwirtschaftlicher Forschung mit Sitz in Kiel. Es zählt zu den sechs führenden deutschen Wirtschaftsforschungsinstituten, die als Mitglieder der Leibniz-Gemeinschaft zu gleichen Teilen vom Bund und der Gemeinschaft der Bundesländer finanziert werden. Als An-Institut der Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel kooperiert es insbesondere mit dessen Wirtschafts- und Sozialwissenschaftlichen Fakultät, ist aber rechtlich und wissenschaftlich eigenständig. Seit dem 1. Januar 2007 ist das Institut eine unabhängige Stiftung des öffentlichen Rechts des Landes Schleswig-Holstein. Es beschäftigt rund 160 Personen, davon über 100 Wissenschaftler. Die Leitung des Instituts besteht seit dem 1. Dezember 2021 aus einem dreiköpfigen Vorstand, dem wissenschaftlichen Führungsduo Holger Görg (Interims-Präsident) und Stefan Kooths (Interims-Vizepräsident) sowie der administrativen Geschäftsführerin Birgit Austen-Bosy.
