Federico Riu Farré (May 14, 1925 – Decembe … Federico Riu Farré (May 14, 1925 – December 9, 1985) was a philosopher and university professor. Riu was born in Lleida, Spain where he worked from an early age as a teacher in the small towns of his province. He emigrated to Venezuela in 1947 and became a Venezuelan citizen in 1954. In Caracas, Riu studied philosophy at the Central University of Venezuela and won a scholarship to study in Europe after receiving the highest grades in his class. He went to the University of Freiburg where he attended the lectures of Martin Heidegger and Eugen Fink. He taught philosophy at the Central University of Venezuela from 1956 to 1980 and became the Chair of the Department in two occasions and served also as Dean of the School of Humanities. Riu va néixer a Lleida, on va treballar des de primerenc com a professor en un petit poble. Després d'una breu estada a França, s'exilia a Veneçuela el 1946, on segueix exercint el seu ofici de mestre. Al mateix temps, estudia filosofia a la Universitat Central de Veneçuela (UCV). Posteriorment, fa el doctorat a la Universitat de Friburg a Alemanya, i es converteix en catedràtic de l'Escola de Filosofia de la UCV. El 1953 es va nacionalitzar com a veneçolà, i el 1954 va rebre el títol de llicenciat amb la màxima qualificació, i és enviat a Friburg de Brisgòvia durant dos anys, on té ocasió d'escoltar a Heidegger i a . En tornar iniciarà la seva carrera com a professor de l'Escola de Filosofia de la UCV, en la qual roman fins a la seva jubilació el 1980. Després de la seva jubilació va tornar a Lleida algunes temporades. El 1959 va contreure matrimoni amb Elena Rima, amb qui tingué una filla, Elena Riu, una coneguda pianista assentada a Londres, especialista en música espanyola. En morir, la UCV creà una càtedra sota el seu nom i, a Caracas, s'hi constituí una fundació.
