Zudem beschäftigt sie sich wissenschaftssoziologisch mit den Fakultäten der Vereinigten Staaten und ihrer Zusammensetzung hinsichtlich Geschlecht und Ethnie. In diesem Zusammenhang veröffentlichte sie 2007 die viel beachteten Nelson Diversity Surveys.
